Yalın: They thought I was a woman
Yalın, the prominent Turkish singer, shared an interesting memory from the early days of his career with his fans on the occasion of his 20th professional anniversary. He said that during that time, due to his face being unknown, some people thought the singer of his songs was a woman.
Hüseyin Yalın, known by his stage name Yalın, entered the world of music in 2004 with his album “Ellerine Sağlık”. This album, which was released during the era of physical music sales, managed to reach an impressive 500,000 copies sold in a short time. Popular tracks like “Zalim” topped the music charts and made Yalın a household name.
A memory from the days of being unknown
Yalın talked about the days when no photos or videos of him had yet been published. He said:
“Back then, only the song had been released; there was no video clip, no photo, no one knew me. I was working with Universal Music, and their office was in Gümüşsuyu. I left the office and got into a taxi heading toward Nişantaşı. My song was being played everywhere, and it started playing in the taxi too. The taxi driver turned up the radio and said to me, ‘I really love this girl.’”
Yalın’s reaction to this funny mistake
He continued:
“At that moment, I felt like I had a cold shower. Of course, I was happy that he liked the song, but at the same time, it felt strange. I told the driver, ‘Pull over, I want to get out.’ I wanted to ask, ‘Am I that girl?’ But I just said, ‘Please pull over.’ I really felt weird. Right after that, I called my team and said, ‘Guys, quickly prepare a video clip or a photo.’ Originally, the clip was scheduled to be recorded later, but we pushed everything one week earlier and even sped up the editing.”
Impact without a face
This story shows how Yalın’s voice was able to make a significant impact on listeners without any visual introduction. With a unique and emotional voice, he earned a special place in the hearts of his fans, even before anyone had seen his face.
