Turkish Classical Music Legend Muazzez Abacı Passes Away at 78

Renowned Turkish classical music artist Muazzez Abacı has passed away on November 12, 2025, at the age of 78.
While visiting her daughter in the United States, she suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized in intensive care, where she sadly passed on her 78th birthday.

Born on November 12, 1947, in Ankara, Muazzez Abacı began her career at Ankara Radio in 1966 and released her first record in 1973. Her timeless songs “Vurgun” and “Şakayık” made her one of the most beloved figures in Turkish classical music.

Her manager Taner Budak wrote: “With deep sorrow, we lost our artist Muazzez Abacı on November 12, her 78th birthday. Her love, smile, and pure heart will forever be remembered.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also shared condolences, saying: “May God have mercy on Muazzez Abacı. I offer my deepest sympathies to her family, fans, and the Turkish art community.”
Although Abacı’s stage activity slowed in the 2000s due to the decline in classical music’s popularity, her voice remains a cornerstone of Turkey’s musical heritage.
